Sex workers have presented a draft bill to reform sex work law. It is the first comprehensive legislative initiative in Germany written directly by sex workers themselves, the Sex Worker Action Group (SWAG) declared at the presentation of the draft on Monday at the Twelve Apostles Church in Berlin. The occasion was International Sex Workers' Day on June 2nd.
Sex workers demand social security through the artists' social security fund
Among other things, the activists demanded the abolition of mandatory registration, arguing that only registered sex workers could access safe workplaces. Instead, the draft legislation proposes the option of registering as self-employed or freelance work, while maintaining the anonymity of individuals. According to the draft, the Artists' Social Security Fund (KSK) would also become the health insurance provider for sex workers.
Furthermore, the activists demand the complete decriminalization of sex work. They argue that the existing restricted zone regulations would contribute to this and should therefore be abolished.
